Health Safety in Connection with the Use of Tattoo and Permanent Make-up

Short description
Health risks by tattoos and permanent make-up can be caused by different factors. In this project the hygiene level of tattoo studios was analyzed and possible microbial hazards (virus, fungi, bacteria) were characterized. To clarify the current situation of dyes hygienic, microbacterial and virological status evaluation of dyes were carried out in practice and under laboratory conditions as well as analysis of dyes in the laboratory.
Furthermore the tattoo dyes were evaluated by modern chemical analysis to their inorganic (heavy metals) and organic composition.
Based on the results guidelines will be outlined which will ensure best practice working procedures in tattoo studios as well as a list of chemically and toxicologically characterized dyes for safer use in order to reduce health risks associated with tattoos and permanent make-up.
