On December 9th and 10th, 2010 a monitoring meeting was held at the premises of the Papiertechnische Stiftung (PTS) in Munich, Germany. Coordinators of running CORNET projects were invited to present the status of their project to representatives of the involved ministries and funding agencies which is part of the reporting within CORNET. The monitoring meetings are held every year and provide a platform to discuss any problems which may have risen during the execution of the project. The monitoring meetings are furthermore a good opportunity for project coordinators to exchange their experiences with each other and with ministry and funding agency representatives.
Projects according to Sectors Presentations were given of 17 projects from 11 countries from the sectors paper, food, building, textile, ceramics and high-tech materials. Most coordinators found that CORNET gave them the opportunity to find solutions for technological problems which are very challenging for SMEs in their sector. They stated that working with small consortia enabled them to work in an efficient and flexible manner. Also the funding for coordination of projects was very much appreciated. Recommendations to improve CORNET were related to further synchronisation of funding programmes and the number of participating countries and regions.

Continuation of CORNET and EraSME

Several ministries and funding agencies are planning to continue collaborating in CORNET and EraSME on the basis of national/regional funding programmes after the end of financial support by the European Commission in December 2010. This decision was made by the Joint Council/Board at a meeting November 11/12, 2010 in Amsterdam. The German ministry BMWi is planning to fund coordination by AiF for two years, starting in January 2011. This includes an option for prolongation by one year.

Within the 9th call, 13 proposals were submitted, all of which are eligible. These projects counted for a
total of 12.6 Mio Euro. Seven projects will be funded. In the 10th call, 11 proposals were submitted with a
budget of approx. 9 Mio € of public funding requested.
